Colorful Cooking…with Aparna
I finally gave in and am trying my hand at this “blog” thing so…
welcome to Colorful Cooking!
During the day I work in biotechnology specifically with a focus in rare genetic diseases – it is an immensely fulfilling career to be bringing therapies to these patients who have no other options. It allows me to flex the scientific and structured side of my brain.
Cooking, for me, balances that with the opportunity to be creative and spontaneous!
– the kitchen is my happy place!
Why colorful cooking?
I believe that if you cook with the full pallet of colors, you are likely to get a very good array of nutrients in your meal, and it doesn’t hurt that it looks all the more delicious!
That being said, not every dish will look like a rainbow and “colorful” can certainly take on a variety of meanings!
What’s cooking?
I would not say that my cooking has any type of theme per say… but I suppose that it is influenced by my heritage and my surroundings.
Indian-inspired
I grew up in a delicious Indian home, and my mom’s cooking is intertwined in anything that I cook – especially in Indian and Indian-fusion dishes
Dairy-free
My husband cannot have dairy; as such I have had to experiment and adapt many recipes to be dairy free – trust me, I love cream and cheese as much as the next person and will occasionally post dairy-full recipes – but it turns out food can be just as delicious without!
Pragmatic- what is in the refrigerator today?
Sometimes you have the time to build a well thought out meal – but most days that is not the case! I often find myself standing in front of the open fridge taking inventory and hoping that inspiration strikes 🙂 These (sometimes) end up being great dishes, and are also the hardest to get down on paper as a “recipe” – but I will try!
